Immunity Boosting Snack for Children

There’s apples and then there’s immunity boosting apples… when our family discovered the incredible physical health benefits of On Guard essential oil through topical and aromatic use, my first thought was “how else can I get this oil into my children?”

And then it was as if the Universe heard my whispered request because the next thing I did was log onto Facebook and I discovered this gem of an idea!  Now my kids have this as a snack almost every day after school.

On Guard is our protective blend, it boosts and protects our immune system in a really powerful way.  It was the first oil I used for a physical ailment when I got started with essential oils.  One of my boys was sick, like really sick, he had a vomiting bug that we’d been up all night with.  So I grabbed my On Guard and massaged some on the bottoms of his feet with some carrier oil, as well as diffuse it into the air.  By midday he was sitting up eating lunch, with colour back in his face, like nothing had ever happened.  It blew my mind.

So you see, I was pretty determined to find another way to get On Guard into my children 😉

It’s jam packed with antioxidants, killing bacteria and free radicals.  It also smells and tastes like Christmas!

So here’s the recipe:
:: Fill a bowl with 1 1/2 cups fresh filtered water
:: Add 2 drops On Guard + 2 drops Wild Orange (Wild Orange adds great flavour plus it’s also high in antioxidants) 
:: Chop up 2 x organic apples and add to the bowl.

I like to soak them for 20-30 minutes (the longer the soak, the better the flavour).  Then drain and serve.  

My boys absolutely love these so I hope your children do too.

Cassia & Lime Bliss Balls

I just love how these incredibly nourishing ingredients marry so perfectly with these two oils.  I love to get essential oils (I only use therapeutic grade) into raw food any way I can simply because they nourish our cells on so many levels.

Just a couple of facts on these oils:
Lime the Oil of Zest for Life.  Lime cleanses and revitalises the heart space, giving room for light and joy.
Cassia the Oil of Self-Assurance.  Cassia brings gladness and courage to the heart & soul.  Cassis dispels fear and replaces it with self-assurance.  It helps those who hold back and try to hide.

90g apricots
90g sultanas
1/2 cup sunflower seeds
3/4 pecans
1/4 desiccated coconut
1/2 tbsp chia seeds
1 tbsp softened coconut oil
1 drop Cassis doTERRA essential oil
7 drops Lime doTERRA essential oil
Place all ingredients in a food processor and whizz until it comes together enough to form balls.  Extra desiccated coconut for rolling (optional).

Hummus

Dip, dip, dip… we can never have enough dips and nothing beats a good old (homemade) traditional hummus!

Ingredients:
1 can chickpeas
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
Juice of half lemon
2 tablespoons tahini
1 large carrot or 2 small
1/4 cup water (add slowly as you may not need this much)
1/2 teaspoon cumin
1 garlic clove
Sea salt to taste

Instructions:
Steam carrots until soft, leave to cool. Open can of chickpeas, strain and rinse very well – Place all ingredients into a food processor and combine until smooth – Serve with crunchy raw veg, dollop over salads, or smooth over a wrap!

Chocolate & Almond Balls

I made these balls for an event recently and they went down a treat!  They’re my ‘go to’ snack for curbing sugar cravings – they have the sweetness of the dates and the chocolate from the cacao (the raw and unprocessed version of cocoa).  My children love them too!

What you need:

  • 1 cup pitted medjool dates
  • 1 cup activated almonds (activated nuts are soaked nuts – this isn’t essential but is much better for our digestion)
  • 1/3 cup raw organic cacao powder
  • 1/3 cup coconut oil (melted gently if not already liquid)
  • 1-2 drops of doTERRA wild orange or peppermint essential oil (optional)
  • ½ cup shredded coconut
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds

What you do:

  1. Soak dates in warm water for 15 minutes to soften.
  2. Whilst dates are soaking add almonds, cacao, shredded coconut, coconut oil, chia seeds, and essential oil (if using) to processor and mix.
  3. Add dates and process.
  4. If mixture is too dry add either a tablespoon of filtered water, or a little bit more coconut oil.
  5. Let mixture sit for 10 minutes.
  6. Roll mixture into bite sized balls.
  7. Roll balls in shredded coconut or cacao if you like.

Store in the fridge (they also freeze well) Enjoy!

Cashew + Date Balls

If you’re in search of a healthy snack then these balls are just perfect and they only contain 2 ingredients!

1 cup dates (pre-soak for 15 minutes, drain well)
1 cup cashew nuts (pre-soak for 4 hours or overnight, drain well)

Blend both dates and nuts in a food processor then take a tablespoon and scoop out small amounts and form into small balls.  Place in fridge for approx. 1 hour then you can either eat them as they are or roll them in toasted sesame seeds.  Enjoy!

My Date & Maca PMS Balls

Maca powder is the most amazing superfood for balancing hormones and the magnesium in cacao helps keeps me calm which is why I always have dark chocolate on hand as well as these blissful balls.

In a food processor place:
110g almonds (it’s always best to soak nuts overnight or for 6 hours to activate them first)
1 cup medjool dates – soak these in warm water for 15 minutes then drain well – don’t forget to remove the stone
4 heaped tblspns cashew nut butter (you can use any nut butter)
3 heaped tspns Maca powder
1 heaped tspn cacao
1 tspn vanilla essence
½ tspn cinnamon and a pinch of salt

Blitz for approx. 1 minute or until it’s processed enough to form into small balls. Store in the fridge (they freeze well too!) Once chilled you can roll them in coconut or cacao or anything you like really!
