Chilled Chocolate Milk for Kids

This drink is a delicious and nutritious way to cool down the kiddies. It’s a regular favourite of ours on hot summer days.

What you need:
:: 2 Brazil nuts or a small handful of cashews
:: 1 cup almond milk
:: 1/4 cup medjool dates (don’t forget to take the stones out!)
:: 2 tbsp cacao powder
:: 2 tbsp cacao nibs
:: 1 tsp maca powder (optional)
:: Blend in a high-speed blender until liquified
:: Then add a handful of ice
(Makes two small drinks for children)

2 Smoothies to Rock Your Socks!

I know I go on a lot about smoothies but that’s because they’ve made SUCH a difference in my life and have sorted out so many digestive issues for me, plus, they’re the BEST way to get nutrients into your body in the best possible way – nothing chews your food like a blender, and the more chewed your food is, the healthier and happier your gut ­čÖé

Some people haven’t taken to smoothies but that’s mostly because they haven’t tried one that tastes really good. ┬áSo today I want to share two recipes with you that are REALLY good!

First up is my Chocolate Thick Shake:

Flaxseeds have a multitude of nutritious benefits, and have been linked to lowering your risk of heart disease, stroke, cancer, and diabetes (plus my Nan who has just turned 98 swears by them!) ┬áCacao powder has over 40 times the antioxidants than blueberries. ┬áAnd don’t forget the goodness of avocado… our bodies thrive on this good fat plus it creates a beautiful thickness.


8 ounces almond milk
┬Ż cup crushed ice
1 ripe banana
1 tablespoon raw honey
┬Ż avocado
2 tablespoons raw cacao
2 tablespoons almond butter
1 tablespoon golden flaxseed (I grind these fresh myself to ensure the goodness is broken up but you can also buy them already ground).

Place all ingredients in the blender and blend until smooth. ┬áSprinkle some chia seeds on if you like – they add a delicious crunch plus they’re SO good for you!

Second up is my Green Goddess Smoothie

This smoothie is a great way to get raw kale or spinach into your body – personally, it’s the only way I can eat those leaves raw ­čÖé

8 ounces almond milk
1/2 cup crushed ice
1 ripe banana
1 handful kale or spinach
1 tbsp almond butter
2 small pieces of dark chocolate (I use Green & Black’s 85%)

Blend well and enjoy!  Your body will thank you for it!

Try and add smoothies to your daily diet – I promise you’ll feel better for it and it’s what we do every day that counts.

Homemade Almond Milk

I love making this nourishing milk for our boys when they return from a long day at school – I normally serve it with my Chocolate Spelt Cookies.

1 cup raw almonds
8 cups filtered water, divided
1/4 teaspoon sea salt, divided
1 small date, pitted
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

What you do:
Place almonds in a bowl with 4 cups of filtered water and 1/8 teaspoon of the salt and soak for 10 hours or overnight. Soak date for 10-15 minutes. Drain the nuts and rinse well. Transfer them to a high-speed blender and fill with 4 cups filtered water. Add the date and the remaining 1/8 teaspoon salt and blend until smooth.

Strain the milk through a fine-mesh sieve, a nut milk bag, or doubled cheesecloth. Squeeze to remove all of the liquid. Store in refrigerator for 5 days.  Delicious!

Dreamy Creamy Green Smoothie

This combination is just beautiful together so if you’re a first timer with smoothies, this is a great one to start with!

Serves 2
1 mango
2 ripe bananas
2 cups spinach leaves
1/2 cup cashew nuts
2 cups almond milk
juice of 1 lime
1 tablespoon chia seeds (optional)

Blend well and serve!

Chocolate Pistachio Smoothie

One of my boys just LOVES pistachio! ┬á(He’s even requested a pistachio cake for his birthday – nothing like a good ol challenge for mummy.) ┬áSo when I made this smoothie he was in heaven…

Serves 2 small glasses

  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk, plus more to thin if desired
  • 1-2 tablespoons black chia seeds
  • 3 whole medjool dates, pitted
  • 1/3 cup shelled & roasted pistachios, plus more for topping
  • 3 frozen medium + very ripe bananas, peeled and sliced
  • 2 tablespoons cacao powder
  • 1/4 cup coconut yoghurt (I use the Yoyo brand)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Place all the ingredients into a blender (don’t forget to set aside extra pistachio for the topping) and blend, I like to whizz it up for a good few minutes until it’s really smooth.

If it’s too thick, add a little extra almond milk to thin. ┬áSprinkle with the extra pistachio and enjoy!

Night-time Milkshake

milkshake1 ┬Ż cups (unsweetened) almond milk
2 frozen bananas
1 tablespoon cacao
2 tablespoons sunflower seed butter
4 dates
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
Pinch of cayenne or ginger for some zing (optional)

Combine all ingredients in a blender.  Blend and enjoy! (Serves 2)

A Taste of Summer Smoothie

This is so delicious and refreshing for a warm summers morning… a dose of summer in a glass!



1 cup coconut water
1 banana
1 mango cheek
1 heaped tablespoon Kefir yoghurt (this is a good probiotic yoghurt but you can use any natural yoghurt)
1 dessertspoon ground flax seeds
1 dessertspoon chia seeds
1 heaped teaspoon maca powder
Juice ┬Ż lime


Throw all ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth. Leave to sit for at least 20 minutes to allow the chia seeds to soften and thicken the smoothie.

My boys drank this in seconds and I think children are pretty good judges when it comes to flavour!
